Cameroon vs DR Congo and Mali vs Congo are first two quarterfinals.

The parings were the result of the two Group B matches played simultaneously tonight in Yaounde and Japoma, respectively.

At the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde, The Simbas of the Democratic Republic of Congo defeated The Menas of Niger 2-1. Johns Kabangu Kadima of the DR Congo raised the curtains at the 27th minute with a cajoling header following a long distance volley. Substitute Moussa Issa Mossi of Niger replicated with a header at 74th minute. And just when it was thought both sides would separate on a 1-1 score, a back pass to keeper Abdoul Razak Halidou was poorly handled by the latter as Adamou Moussa Issa chipped the ball from behind the goalie, serving Masasi Amede who lobbed into the net to put scores at 2-1 for The Simbas at the 91st minute. The Man-of-match award went to Niger player, Ibrahim Djibrila Issa as The Simbas, first in Group B will now tackle Cameroon, second in Group A in next Sunday’s quarterfinal tie at the Japoma Sports Stadium.

In the other match played at the Japoma Sports Stadium, Gautrand Ngouenimba’s 49th minute goal sealed a 1-0 victory for the Republic of Congo over Libya. Congolese player, Hardy Binguila was named Man-of-the-match as The Red Devils emerged second in Group B and will now play the first in Group A, The Eagles of Mali next Sunday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.

Morocco, Rwanda reach quarterfinals.

Group C of the CAF Total African Nations Championship Cameroon 2020 produced their quarterfinals representatives after two sensational matches played in Bepanda, Douala and Ngeme, Limbe.

In Bepanda, Ibrahim Orit of the Cranes of Uganda raised the curtains at the 25th minute with a powerful right foot grounder amid a goalmouth tussle. Captain Ayoub El Kaabi equalized in stoppage time of the first half when he transformed a penalty following a touch of the ball in the box by a pressured Musitafa Mujuzi. Soufiane Rahimi scored the second goal for the Atlas Lions at the 51st minute. Hamza El Moussaoui’s thunderous shot further put the Moroccans ahead with the third goal. Soufiane Rahimi was on target again for the fourth goal at the 71st minute. Ugandan revival at the 84th minute through a bullet of a shot by Saidi Kyeyune was quickly dampened when Abdelilah Hafidi made it look so easy with a fifth two minutes into stoppage time of the match as Morocco prevailed 5-2. Soufiane Rahimi  (PICTURE DOWN) who scored a brace for the Atlas Lions was named Man-of-the-match.

At the Limbe Omnisports Stadium, The Amavubi of Rwanda defeated The Sparrow Hawks of Togo 3-2 to reach the quarterfinals. Captain Yendoutie Nane of Togo raised the curtains at the  . 38th minute but were caught up with when Olivier Niyonzima equalized at the 46th minute. Substitute Bilali Akoro of the Sparrow Hawks increased tally at the 59thminute; one minute before captain Jacques Tuyisenge equalized for Rwanda. And then substitute Ernest Sugira gave Rwanda the winner with a 66th minute goal to put full-time scores at 3-2 for Rwanda whose captain, Jacques Tusiyenge was named Man-of-the-match.

Guinea, Zambia complete quarterfinals field.

The Syli Nationale of Guinea and The Chipolopolo of Zambia from Group D tonight completed the quarterfinals field of the CAF Total African Nations Championship Cameroon 2020 after the two last group matches of the competition. 

At the Reunification Stadium in Bepanda, Douala, Barry Yakhouba scored the first goal for Guinea when he transformed a 5th minute penalty after a touch of the ball with the hand inside the area. The hard-fighting Taifa Stars of Tanzania obtained the equalizer through Baraka Majogoro at the 23rd minute. As events wore on, Edward Manyama headed home the second goal for the Stars at the 69th minute. And then, when a Tanzanian qualification became apparent, Victor Kantabadounou silenced such predictions at the 82nd minute with a thunderous drive from near thirty metres. He was latter named Man-of-the-match. The full-time scores of 2-2 qualified Guinea as group leaders. 

In a parallel match in Limbe, Zambia played to a 0-0 draw with Namibia to occupy the second spot and hence qualification for the quarterfinals. Zambian player, Collins Sikombe was named Man-of-the-match.

The quarterfinal matches will pit Mali against Congo at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on Saturday at 5 pm, followed by DR Congo vs Cameroon at Japoma at 8 pm. The next day, Morocco will play against Zambia at the Reunification Stadium at 5 pm, followed by Guinea vs Rwanda in Limbe at 8 pm.
