REFRESHER

The new Cameroon Professional Football League, LFPC, season has gotten underway. But while the league scheduled the rest of the Day 1 matches for last week, the federation are stoking flames of uncertainty about the road ahead after they queried the two teams that played in last Sunday’s season launcher. It is not certain how the clubs, Coton Sport Garoua and Panthère du Nde will react to the queries that have came to undermine the new domestic football season in the country.

For last Sunday’s season launcher covered live on State-owned radio-television network, LFPC hired the services of an Equato-guinean trio after the federation had rather organized a refresher course for their referees. Some 200 fans, in keeping with protocol to fight Covid-19 spread, took to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium to watch the game whose guest of honour was the Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Joseph Yerima, deputizing for the Minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.

Cameroon roving ambassador and IFFHS legend player, Albert Roger Milla took the kickoff to what was a great game in which Coton Sport defeated Panthère 2-0 with goals  by Thierry Tchuente at the 39th minute, and Felix Oukine at the 81stminute. Egyptian coach for the losers, Ahmed Abdel was unable to better stand up to the ingenuity of his counterpart Souleymanou Aboubakar who was aided in the success story after their opponents lost Joel Ndzana to a red card at the 42nd minute.

The fans who were all given face masks as they made their way into the stadium were visibly satisfied with the gesture, contrasting with the theme “protect our children” in honour of seven school boys and girls gunned down by unidentified gunmen in Mother Francisca International Bilingual Secondary School in Kumba Saturday, October 31st, 2020.
