DREAM TEAM - GOALKEEPERS
This year 2020, the BALLON D'OR was cancelled because of the COVID 19 but France-Football, the magazine of World Football, decided to make an Operation DREAM TEAM, considering in each position (1-3-4-3) the Best players of the History. A difficult work because of the many great players that the World Football has seen since so many years. (since 1950 we have more informations and statistics about the football). Before it was a great work that the IFFHS has done and continue to publish.
The IFFHS has taken in consideration the nominees in each position of the BALLON D'OR DREAM TEAM and will give the informations about the Awards and distinctions of the nominees by IFFHS in the last years.
GOALKEEPERS
- Lev YASHIN (Russia) was crowned by IFFHS, THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
- Gordon BANKS (England) was ranked by IFFHS , THE SECOND WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
- Dino ZOFF (Italy) was ranked by IFFHS, THE THIRD WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
- Sepp MAIER (Germany) was ranked by IFFHS, THE 4TH WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
- Peter SCHMEICHEL (Denmark) was ranked by IFFHS, THE 7TH WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY and has also won 2 IFFHS AWARDS of THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER in 1992 and 1993, also THE IFFHS CLUB WORLD RANKING 1999 with Manchester United.
- Thomas NKONO (Cameroon) was ranked by IFFHS in the Global Century Ranking as AFRICA'S BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
- Edwin VAN DER SAR (Netherlands) was ranked 29th of the WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER Ranking of the 20TH CENTURY and also was in the Top 5 of the IFFHS annual World Goalkeeper Awards during 10 years. He won the IFFHS CLUB WORLD RANKING Award 2008 with Manchester United.
- Iker CASILLAS (Spain) won 5 IFFHS Awards of THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 - and also 3 IFFHS Awards of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING with Real Madrid (2000, 2002, 2014).
- Gianluigi BUFFON (Italy) won 5 IFFHS Awards of THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2017
- Manuel NEUER (Germany) won 4 IFFHS Awards of THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 - and also 1 IFFHS Award of THE CLUB WORLD RANKING 2013 with FC Bayern München.
- Lev YACHIN, Dino ZOFF and Peter SCHMEICHEL are also in the LEGEND PLAYERS PHASE 1 List of the IFFHS. Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Buffon will certainly join the LEGEND PLAYERS List when they stopped their player career, also Iker Casillas, who stopped his career recently.
