Lieke Elisabeth Petronella Martens, born 16 December 1992 in Bergen, is currently the Playmaker of the Netherlands National Team and of FC Barcelona, having her greatest success in 2017 with the winning of the UEFA Euro, the Awards of the UEFA and FIFA Players of the Year, and the IFFHS Award of the WORLD’S BEST PLAYMAKER of the year .
Lieke Martens began her senior career at 17 in Heerenveen and Venlo in the Netherlands (2009 to 2011) before moving in 2011 to Standard de Liège in Belgium. She won there her first title, the BENE Super Cup 2011 and scored already 17 goals in 25 matches ! She was transferred to Germany and FCR Duisburg, where she played 30 matches in the Bundesliga, scoring 7 goals. In 2014, Martens signed for Kopparsbergs/Göteborg FC in Sweden. She played 37 matches in the season, scoring 12 goals as left wing . She left Göteborg in november 2015 to join FC Rosengard for one season. 20 goals and 29 matches later, she won two competitions : the Svenska Cuppen and the Svenska Supercupen 2016 !
In July 2017, Lieke signed for FC Barcelona, where she played always until now (22 goals in 52 matches). She won the Copa del Rey 2018 and three Copa Catalunya 2017, 2018 and 2019, but she helped particularly FC Barcelona to reach his first UEFA Champions League final. The team lost 1-4 against Olympique Lyonnais on 18 May 2019 in Budapest. Lieke Martens was selected in the Netherlands National Team U19 in 2010, playing 27 matches (8 goals) and crowned Top Goal Scorer at the UEFA Euro 2010 ! In August 2011, she played her first game for the senior national team against China. Since this date, Lieke has already 110 international caps with 44 goals, winning with the national team the UEFA Euro Championship 2017 and being runner-up at the FIFA World Cup 2019 !
Lieke participated at two UEFA Euros (2013 and 2017), also at two FIFA World Cups (2015 and 2019), she scored Netherlands’s first ever World Cup goal in 2015 in Canada. In 2017, she dominated the World Football with the winning of the UEFA Euro Championship in her country, she impressed so that she won all individual titles the same year : the FIFA World Player, the UEFA Euro Player of the Tournament, the UEFA Best player and the IFFHS World’s Best Playmaker !
