RODRI ENDED UNBEATEN RUN
Rodri ended the last of his great unbeaten runs
Manchester City captain Rodri ended his unbeaten run in the Champions League, which spanned more than three years and 23 matches.
Norwegian side Bodo-Glimt ended his run, beating City 3-1 on 20 January. Rodri himself, after receiving two yellow cards within a minute, was sent off in the second half.
During his run, the Spanish midfielder suffered two lengthy spells out of action. During his injury breaks, his team suffered no fewer than six Champions League defeats.
Rodri fell just three games short of team-mate Bernardo Silva's tournament record of 26 consecutive matches unbeaten between October 2018 and May 2021.
In the ranking of such individual feats in the history of the Champions League (including the European Cup era), Rodri is now joint 10th.
In 2025, Rodri finished two other remarkable unbeaten streaks:
27 games in all international club competitions (joint second place in history, behind record-holder Dani Carbajal's 31);
53 games in the English top flight (second most in history, behind Sol Campbell's record of 56 games).
In 2024, Rodri set a world record for unbeaten run in the category of club games in all competitions (74).
Also, his streak of 73 games overall, for club and national team, became the 3rd longest in football history (the record is held by Demetrio Albertini, 82 games).
