LUIS SUAREZ THE OTHER
One Luis Suárez succeeds another
Luis Suárez, one of the great goal-scorers of our time, ended his international career with Uruguay last year. But now, his full namesake from Colombia took over the baton and achieved a notable goalscoring feat.
This new Luis Suárez (Charris by maternal surname) became this autumn the first player in 14 years to score 4 goals in a South American qualifier (vs Venezuela 6-3).
The last to do so was no one else than his more prominent namesake (for Uruguay against Chile in November 2011).
Very strangely, Luis Suárez Charris has never scored for Colombia before this poker, and it was his only 2nd appearance in this qualifying campaign.
The Colombia’s surprising prolific scorer is the 6th player to score a poker in the entire history of the South American Qualifiers (see the table).
The record still belongs to Iván Zamorano who netted 5 goals for Chile in 1997 vs Venezuela.
