END OF A GREAT RUN
Bayer Leverkusen end the last of their outstanding streaks
On November 1, Bayer Leverkusen lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in an away Bundesliga match, ending the last of their great runs achieved under former coach Xabi Alonso.
Bayer were unbeaten as visitors in the Bundesliga for two consecutive seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25), 34 straight games in total, when the Spaniard was in charge, and added three more unbeaten away games at the start of the new season under his successor Kasper Hjulmand.
This brings Bayer's remarkable away streak to eventual 37 games: the best such feat in Bundesliga history (the previous record belonged to Bayern Munich, 33 games between 2012 and 2014), and the third-best in the history of the top five European leagues.
The two longer away runs were enjoyed by Milan between 1991 and 1993 (38 games unbeaten in Serie A) and PSG (39 games in Ligue 1, a record set under Luis Enrique this year).
The record for European leagues still stands: Steaua, 64 games in the Romanian league between 1986 and 1990 (see the rankings below).
To remind, earlier, in 2023-24, Bayer became the first ever team in Bundesliga history unbeaten in a whole season and avoided defeats in 51 successive matches across all competitions what became the new longest such streak for top five European leagues (and for all European leagues in the era of UEFA competitions).
