Champions League statistics: league stage, round 4 (November 5)

*England’s clubs earned almost twice more points after 4 match-days combined (55 in 24 games) than any other nation. 
The next are: Germany 28 in 16 matches, Italy 26 in 16, Spain 26 in 20.

Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund 4-1

*Pep Guardiola didn’t lose in his last 10 games as a coach vs Borussia Dortmund (his last defeat losing to them was with Bayern in the 2014 German Super Cup final).

*Manchester City extended their unbeaten home run in the UCL group/league stages to 22, last losing vs Lyon in 2018. 

*Phil Foden has scored his first brace in a Champions League game.  

*Erling Haaland became the first player with 5-game scoring run in Champions League for 3 different clubs: RB Salzburg (in 2019-20), Borussia Dortmund (in 2020-21) and now with Manchester City.

*Erling Haaland became the 2nd player in UCL history to score in the first 4 match-days of the group/league stage in the most seasons (also in 2019-20 and 2020-21).
Cristiano Ronaldo did so in 2013-14, 2017-18 and 2021-22.

*Haaland has already scored 27 goals in the 17 matches he has played this season for club and country.

*Bernardo Silva made his 100th Champions League appearance as the fourth Portuguese to reach the milestone, after Cristiano Ronaldo (183), Pepe (120) and Luís Figo (103).

Club Brugge vs Barcelona 3-3

*Barcelona have scored in 51 consecutive matches across all competitions: the best such streak in their history.

*At the same time, Barcelona have conceded in each of their last 9 games in all competitions: their worst such run since March 2013 (13 games in a row with conceding).

*Barcelona conceded twice in 17 starting minutes: the joint-earliest they have ever been two goals down in a Champions League match.
It only happened to them once before, on 8 March 2005 away against Chelsea (that game ended 4-2 for Chelsea). 

*Club Brugge have scored 3+ goals vs Spanish opposition for the first time since 1969 (vs Sabadell 5-1 in Fairs Cup).

*Club Brugge's Carlos Forbs became the youngest player (21 years 231 days) to both score and assist in a Champions League match against Barcelona, surpassing David Beckham who did so in September 1998 at 23 years 137 days.

*Carlos Forbs has scored the first brace in his professional career.

Inter vs Kairat 2-1

*Inter have won all first 4 matches in a season in Champions League/European Cup for the first time in the club history. 

*Lautaro Martínez became the third player to score in each of his first 3 Champions League matches in a season for Inter (he missed the match-day 1), after Adriano in 2004-05 and Samuel Eto'o in 2010-11.

*Lautaro Martinez is the top scorer in the Champions League in 2025 (12 goals), ahead of Harry Kane (11) and Kylian Mbappé (10).

Newcastle vs Athletic Bilbao 2-0

*Newcastle won 3 consecutive games in major European competitions for the first time since March 2007 (in UEFA Cup).

*It’s already 7th Premier League victory in 8 head-to-head matches against La Liga teams this UCL season.

Benfica vs Bayer Leverkusen 0-1

*Benfica lose all their 4 opening  Champions League games of a season for the third time in their history, after 2017-18 and 2023-24.

*Benfica’s coach José Mourinho has lost all his last 6 Champions League matches on bench: his worst run of coaching in the competition.

Ajax vs Galatasaray 0-3

*Ajax have lost 7 consecutive European games: their worst such run ever.

*Ajax became the third Dutch side to lose their first 4 games of a Champions League campaign, after Willem II in 1999-00 and Feyenoord in 2017-18.

*Ajax have conceded 8 penalties in their last 8 matches in all competitions, as many as in their previous 123 games. 

*Victor Osimhen has scored in all his last 8 European games with Galatasaray: the best such scoring streak for a player of a Turkish club in history.

*Osimhen scored the 2nd hat-trick by a Nigerian player in the Champions League, after Yakubu Ayegbeni with Maccabi Haifa vs Olympiacos (3-0) on 24 September 2002.

*The only Galatasaray player, until now, with a hat-trick in the UCL was Burak Yilmaz (against Cluj in 2012).

Pafos vs Villarreal 1-0

*Pafos is the third Cypriot club to win a Champions League group/league stage match, after Anorthosis (one win against Panathinaikos in 2008) and APOEL (two wins against Zenit and Porto in 2011).

*Villarreal became the first Spanish club to lose to a Cypriot opponent in the European Cup/Champions League.
In the UEFA Cup, there have been three Spanish defeats against Cypriot opponents:
Anorthosis vs Athletic 2-0 (1994),
APOEL vs Athletic 2-0 (2017),
APOEL vs Sevilla 1-0 (2019).

Qarabag vs Chelsea 2-2

*Qarabağ have gained a point vs an English opponent for the first time, after 6 defeats in 6 games (with only 1 goal scored in them).

*Chelsea fielded the second-youngest ever starting lineup (average age of 23 years 97 days) for an English club in an away Champions League match, only behind Arsenal's vs Olympiacos in December 2009 (21-215).

*Chelsea’s Estêvão became the first South American player to score in consecutive Champions League appearances while aged 18 or younger. 

Marseille vs Atalanta 0-1

*Marseille have not won any of their last 10 matches against Italian clubs (3 draws, 7 defeats); their last victory was against Inter in the Champions League on 22 February 2012 (1-0).

*Geronimo Rulli has saved 4 of the 10 penalties he has faced with Marseille in official competitions.
