Substitute’s pokers in World Cup Qualifying
Norway’s Thelo Aasgaard became the third player to score a poker as a substitute in the history of World Cup Qualifying. His predecessors are
Nuno Gomes (with Portugal in 2001) and Seule Soromon (with Vanuatu in 2007).
Soromon has even scored 5 goals as a sub (details in the table).
Remarkably, Aasgaard took only 26 minutes on pitch to score 4 times against Moldova on 9 September – while other two players able for such a feat used more game time after coming on.
In the current edition of World Cup Qualifying, only one player else has scored a hat-trick in the role of substitute: Jamie Maclaren (Australia) against Bangladesh (7-0) on 16 November 2023.
