IFFHS STATS – AFRICA WORLD CUP 2026 QUALIFIERS 

 

Morocco and Tunisia are the only two African national teams to book their place at next year’s World Cup finals ! Morocco won 7 of 7 consecutive games , confirming that they are the top-ranked African side since the World Cup semi final 2022 in Qatar ! Tunisia is one of the two teams in Africa to have 8 clean sheets in 8 games ! Two games before the end of the qualifications (8-12 October), here the situation :

 

Group A 

Egypt is leader with 20 points, 5 more than Burkina Faso. Mohamed Salah’s team needs a win in Djibouti or at home vs Guinea Bissau to secure their qualification. Burkina Faso must fight next month in Sierra Leone to keep the second place, because Sierra Leone has only 3 points less …

 

Group B

With their win in DR Congo, Senegal has taken the leadership with 18 points, two more than their opponent ! The way is now open to the qualification with the 2 last games vs Mauritania and South Sudan. The great success yesterday in Kinshasa, after a 0-2 to win 3-2, was absolutely extraordianry.

 

Group C

South Africa has 17 points and the best chances to qualify. Benin, second with 14 points, has a difficult schedule, going to Nigeria for a crucial game (Nigeria 11 points) in the last game of the Group ! The fight for second place will be passionate because of Rwanda (11 points), which will play Benin and South Africa, and with two wins  could change the rankings at all !

 

Group D

The win of Cape Verde vs Cameroon has given 4 points advance for the teammates of Rocha Livramento, the golden goalscorer of the game .With 19 points, Cape Verde need only one win in their last two games vs Lybia and Eswatini to qualify for their first World Cup ever ! Cameroon must now win to secure minima the second place.

 

Group E

`Morocco (7 games, 7 wins, 21 goals scored, 2 conceded) has 21 points, 11 more than Tanzania and 12 than Niger. One game to play the 11 October for Tanzania vs Zambia. Two games to play for Niger on 8 october vs Congo and 11 October in Zambia. Niger with two wins can take the second place behind Morocco.

 

Group F

Ivory Coast and Gabon (0-0 yersterday) have now 20 and 19 points after 8 games ! Ivory Coast, also with 8 clean sheets like Tunisia, must win the two last games in Seychelles and vs Kenya to secure the first place and the qualification. Gabon can only hope of a bad result of Ivory Coast to surpass them.

 

Group G

Algeria has the best chances to qualify for the World Cup finals. With 19 points, they count 4 points more than Uganda and Mozambique . Mozambique has the best schedule, Uganda must go ti Algeria for the last game on 11 October.

 

Group H

Tunisia (8 games, 22 points, 13-0) was absolutely sovereign in this Group where Liberia has already 4 points less than Namibia, currently second of the Group. But Namibia must go to Liberia on 8 October and to Tunisia on 11 October … It could be the chance for Liberia to conquer the second place !

 

Group I

Ghana (19), Madagascar (16) and Comoros (15) fight for the qualification ! Comoros will play Madagascar on 8 October and Ghana on 11 October, they can shake up the ranking, all is possible in this Group for the direct way to the World Cup finals and the second place.
