ALFREDO DI STEFANO REPEATED BY JOAO NEVES
Di Stefano’s feat repeated by João Neves
In the French league game vs Toulouse (6-3) on 30 August, PSG’s João Neves achieved a very rare feat scoring 2 bicycle kick goals. He did it already within the first 15 minutes of the match (and later added another goal for making a hat-trick).
The Portuguese midfielder is not the first player in top level football history to do so. 74 years ago, Alfredo Di Stefano performed the similar “bicycle brace” playing for Millonarios in Colombian league.
Against Deportivo Samarios on 2 September 1951, the Argentine genius netted his first “chilena” on 47th minute (receiving a long pass from Hugo Reyes) and repeated this kick on 60th (from Antonio Báez’s free kick). It was the last 2 goals in the game that finished with a Millonarios win 3-0.
Hence, Di Stefano is still the unique player in history to score 2 consecutive goals in a game by bicycle kicks. João Neves’s goals, scored on 7th and 14th minutes, were not consecutive (Bradley Barcola inserted his one between them).
However, João Neves put his bicycle brace in a shorter time span, just 7 minutes, while Di Stefano took 13.
