IFFHS CONTINENTAL STATS - CHAN DAY 11

Picture : Musa Hussein Musa Ali (23) became the youngest player to score for Sudanese national team  in a continental tournament last week against Congo at the age of 18 years and 10 months. Yesterday he made an assist for the third goal of Sudan !

Sudan devastate Nigeria 4/0 and send warning to group mates.

In all honesty not even Sudanese faithful could have justifiably predicted such an outcome ahead of the second group D game in the Amaan Stadium, City of Zanzibar. But the reality was there staring everyone unapologetically in the face. A spirited Nigeria thought they had earned reward for hardwork when Anthony Ijoma found the net in the 23rd minute. But a VAR check revealed an offside foul. Yet to recover like a boxer from an uppercut, Nigerian defender, Leonard Ngenge got an own-goal two minutes on beating his keeper with a header after Faisal Elmossbah's effort rebounded from the upright. Yet, what a night for Ngenge when he climbed on his teammate's shoulder to back pass the ball with his elbow. Captain Safour Khdri shot from the spot to put scores at 2/0 in the 41st minute. Upon resumption, Nigeria coach, Eric Chelle also in charge of the national team brought in three versatile scorers inexplicably benched during the first half. But the substitions yielded nothing, as rather it was Sudan clearly in superlative form who found the net as Abdelrazig Taha got his first on the night hitting goal number 3 in the 55th minute. Seven minutes on, Taha made it a brace for himself with the 4th goal following a clinical volley. An ultimate attempt by Raymond Tochukwu to give Nigeria a face saver found the upright. With the 4/0 win, Sudan whose players had been drawn from Leagues in Mauritania and Libya in the absence of a local league literally sent a warning signal to their next opponents, Senegal. The mvp award went to Abdelrazig Taha.

In the first group game in the same setting group leaders and defending champions, Senegal forced Congo to a 1/1 draw. The Congolese opened scores in the 19th minute when 19-year old Dechen Moussavou connected home a cross from the flanks as Senegal took their first goal in five CHAN games. The scorer would later collide in an airborne duel with Assam Baye losing each man some drops of blood. An attempt to increase tally was sighted with a long distance drive by Elie Andzouno whose 69th minute showing sent Senegalese keeper Marc Philips Arona deviating the ball over the woodwork. But then on 82 minutes defender Joseph Samb equalized for Senegal in reward of his perfect connection of a cross from the flanks. They did miss the chance to increase tally when Seyni Ndiaye headed just beyond the upright to close a match whose mvp was Congolese Dechen Moussavou.

On bill this Wednesday are the games Madagascar vs Central Africa Republic and Mauritania vs Burkina Faso.
