QUARTER FINALS
Nigeria – Zambia 5-0
The Super Falcons put on a dominant display, beating Zambia with a great victory 5-0 ! With 9 goals scored in 4 games and with 4 clean sheets, Nigeria send a clear message to their rivals. Esther Okoronkwo, one goal and two assists, was absolutely phenomenal and the solid defenders let no chance to star Barbra Banda, second best goalscorer in USA.
Morocco – Mali 3-1
The host nation continues his impressive run. The Atlas lionesses were clinical, securing their spot in the semi finals with two goals of Ibtissam Jraidi, who had now 3 goals in the competition, captain Ghizlane Chebbak leading the ranking with 4 goals. Morocco is definitely looking to make history and claim their first WAFCON title on home soil.
Algeria – Ghana. 0-0 (2-4 penalties)
If Algeria had more possession of the ball, they never could make the difference against a team of Ghana with more experiance in this competition. The Black Queens waited the penalty shoot out to secure their qualification for the semi final, where they will face Morocco on Tuesday 22 July.
South Africa – Senegal 0-0 ((4-1 penalties)
Defending champions South Africa are one step closer to retaining their crown after edging Senegal in a nerve wracking quarter final decided by penalties. It was a goalless game with chances on both sides, South Africa was the most efficient in the shootout, triumphing 4-1 with great saves of Andile Dlamini ! Banyana Banyana will now face Nigeria in the other semi final on Tuesday 22 July.
