ONE NATION FINALS

One-nation finals in European club competitions

The recent Europa League final Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United (1-0) became the 19th final in the history of UEFA club competitions between two teams from the same nation.
Adding other significant club tournaments in Europe, beyond UEFA auspices, the number of such finals extends to 24 (plus 2 in Mitropa Cup until 1940 and 3 in Fairs’ Cup). They are compiled in the table.
The previous such case occurred in 2021 (Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City).
All last 4 one-nation finals were all-English.
Tottenham took part in joint-most one-nation finals (3), along with 5 other clubs.
England leads now on one-nation finals in UEFA-recognised competitions (6), while Spain has most such finals in the extended version (8, including 3 in Fairs’ Cup).
