COMEBACKS IN COPA LIBERTADORES
Biggest comebacks in Copa Libertadores
In the match-day 3 of the Copa Libertadores 2025 group stage (picture), Internacional Porto Alegre avoided a home defeat vs Nacional Montevideo (3-3) despite trailing 0-3 on the game course.
The Brazilian club became the first team in 12 years to overcome a 3-goal deficit in a Copa Libertadores match. Bolívar were the last to do so, against São Paulo on 30 January 2013. That time, the Bolivian team won 4-3 at home after being 0-3 down.
In the competition’s history, this is the 9th similar feat. They are listed in the table (IS – intermedate score, FS – final score).
Bolívar hold the record for super-comebacks (3); Olimpia Asuncion are the next (2).
Bolívar are also the only team in the history to erase 4-goal dificit; they did it in 2002 vs Atlético Paranaense (5-5 from 1-5).
Notably, all 9 cases occurred in preliminary or group stages; that is, the first great comeback in the knockout phase is yet to come.
