DIEGO SIMEONE 500
Simeone reaches 500 games as La Liga coach
Diego Simeone, after 13 years and one month in charge at Atlético Madrid, has reached 500 La Liga games as a coach.
His account began in Malaga on 7 January 2012 and the newest milestone was achieved on 1 February vs Mallorca (2-0).
Symbolically, Simeone entered “Club 500+ La Liga games” as 9th member (see the table) just on the day of the 11th death anniversary of the record holder Luis Aragonés (756 games).
Simeone is one of 3 active members of the “Club” along with Ernesto Valverde (Athletic Bilbao) and Manuel Pellegrini (Betis).
It’s worth noting that “Cholo” holds La Liga records in two categories for coaches: for most consecutive matches and for most matches with the same team.
He also won most games (306) of his first 500 among all coaches of the “Club”. He is ahead of Muñoz (280), Pellegrini (239), Valverde (238), Luis Aragones (231).
