BARCELONA'S WORST RUN

Picture : Captain Raphinha and his team played very well against Atlético, but conceded a third consecutive defeat at home.

Worst home run in Barcelona’s history

On 21 December, Barcelona lost at the Nou Camp to Atlético Madrid (1-2), and this was their third defeat in a row in La Liga home matches.
A similar series had happened only once before in the club’s history, in 1965 (see table).
There was another close run in 1987, which should not be although lumped in with the above two. On 6 and 20 September 1987, Barcelona lost two matches at home in a row (1-2 to Sevilla and 0-1 to Valencia). The next home match, on 3 October, was interrupted in the 70th minute with the score 1-1. It was completed on 28 October. Result: another defeat for Barça (1-2). But before that, on 25 October, the team played another home game, which they managed not to lose.

*In the matches of the current league season, relating to rounds from the 13th to the 18th (the last one at the moment), Barcelona gained only 2 points. In the league table specifically for this segment, it would have taken the last, 20th place.
(However, during this period, Barcelona also played a removed match of the 19th round, in which they defeated Mallorca 5-1).
A striking contrast to the early stages of the league (matchdays 1 to 12), when Barcelona were comfortably ahead by 9 points.

*Barcelona's disastrous stretch can be partly explained by the high number of hits on the woodwork, 17 since the start of the championship (Lewandowski 5, Raphinha 4, Dani Olmo 3, Yamal 2, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati and Koundé 1 each): by large more compared to other teams (the next are Villarreal 10 and Atlético 9).

*Barcelona's sharply unstable performance this season strangely correlates with that of Manchester City in England, which once again lost on 21 December (1-2 to Aston Villa).
Pep Guardiola's side now have 6 defeats in their last 8 league matches (with 1 win and 1 draw) and 9 in their last 12 in all competitions (with 1 win and 2 draws).
In the special EPL table spanning November and December games, Man City would take the last, 20th, place with 4 points in 8 games.
