THE FIRST DAY OF CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Yesterday was the first day of the CAF Champions League, in its 29th edition, and there were 3 wins for the locals, two draws and 3 victories for the visitors.
23 goals scored , the highest total of all first days since the first edition, played in groups in 1997.
The eight matches resulted in:
*Young Africans – Al Hilal ( 0-2 )
This is the first victory of the Sudanese team in 9 away matches from the opening days.
And the first defeat of the Tanzanian team in the second match played on their field (the first at the 1998 edition) for the first day of the Champions League group stage.
This is Al Hilal’s second win in his third match against the Tanzanian team for continental competitions.
This is the second loss for Young Africans in 7 games as host of the Champions League group stage.
And also the third victory, after 40 years, of Sudanese clubs as visors of Tanzanian clubs in continental cups.
This is the third time that Young Africans have been beaten by a score of ( 2-0 ) in the new Champions League.
And the fourth victory of the Congolese coach Jean-Florent Ibengé during his 22nd away game in the group stage.
Adama Coulibaly scored the first goal of yesterday’s day by registering his name as the second youngest Malian goalscorer since the competition’s Group Stage, at the age of 18 years and 312 days.
*TP Mazembe – MC Alger (0-0)
In Mauritian referee Patrice Milazare’s first match in the Champions League group stage
This is the first time that TP Mazembe has failed to score in the 14 matches in which they have hosted Algerian clubs in African competitions.
This is MC Alger’s first point in three matches played as visitors against clubs from DR Congo.
*Mamelodi Sundowns – Maniema Union (0-0)
This is Maniema Union’s first match in the Champions League group stage
This is the first time that goals have been absent in continental matches (11 matches), in which the South African team hosted clubs from DR Congo.
This is also the first time that Mamelodi Sundowns have failed to score in their third match with the Congolese team for the continental cups.
*Al Ahly - Stade d'Abidjan (4-2)
In the first continental match between the two teams
This is the first participation in the group stage of the Champions League of Stade d'Abidjan, which suffered the heaviest defeat of all clubs in Côte d'Ivoire in its 23 matches against the Al Ahly club.
This is the second victory of the Egyptian team with the same score (the first in the 2013 edition) in continental matches.
And also the second defeat of Ivorian clubs with the same score (the first in the 1984 edition) in the African Cup.
Al Ahly played match No. 198, during which it won victory No. 97, bringing its score to 291 goals, as many African records for the team since the group stage of the Champions League.
Mahmoud Abdelmonem "Kahraba" scored twice in the 14th and 48th minutes and became the 12th North African player with 11 goals, to have scored at least 10 goals since the group stage of the competition.
Hussein El Shahat scored the third goal in the 26th minute with an assist from "Kahraba"
He is the fourth player to reach at least 14 goals on the list of scorers in the Champions League competition since the group stage.
* Pyramids - Sagrada Esperança (5-1)

And in the first quituplet of Pyramids in the opening matches of the group stage of the two competitions.
This is the fifth time that the Egyptian team will play at home the first day of the group stage of the two African competitions.
This is Sagrada Esperança's fifth game without a win against Egyptian clubs
This is also Pyramids' fifth win in the opening group stage matches of both continental competitions
*Raja AC – FAR Rabat (0-2)
During the 17th meeting between the Moroccan clubs in the African Cup, the first in the Champions League, and the first between the two teams.
This is the first victory of FAR Rabat on the first day, the first as a visitor in the group stage of the competition, the second as a visitor in the new edition of the Champions League, the sixth away in both editions, and No. 14 away in the various continental cups.
This is the second victory of FAR Rabat with the same score in the matches it has played away for the African Cups.
This is the third defeat of Raja AC with the same score in the matches it has played at home for continental competitions, the fourth out of a total of 10 matches played on the first day of the group stage of the Champions League and the seventh for the various continental matches it has played as a host.
*CR Belouizdad - Orlando Pirates (1-2)

And in the 20th meeting of the referee of the DR Congo Jean Jacques Ndala Ngambo since the group stage of the Champions League.
This is the first defeat of CR Belouizdad in 6 matches played for the first day of the group stage.
The first victory of Orlando Pirates in 5 matches played on the first day of the group stage
This is the third defeat of the Algerian team in 3 matches in which it hosted South African clubs.
In exchange, this is the fourth victory of the South African team in 8 matches in which it has faced Algerian clubs
* Espérance ST - Djoliba AC (4-0)
Djoliba's first match in the group stage of the Champions League
This is the second victory of the Tunisian team in its third match against the Malian team (the first in the 2000 edition) in the Champions League.
This is Espérance's fifth victory in 5 matches in which it has hosted Malian clubs in both editions of the Champions League.
Also, this is Djoliba's sixth defeat in 13 matches in which it faced Tunisian clubs in continental cups.
For the 11th time, Malian clubs have been beaten by the same score in the African Cup
Also, this is the 11th time that Espérance has won by the same score in continental matches.
Espérance played their 183rd match, during which they won their 86th victory, bringing their total to 231 goals since the group stage of the Champions League.
In yesterday's match, Algerian Mohamed Youcef Belaïli contributed two goals, bringing his total to 6 assists, in addition to the five goals scored in the two matches of the last round. He thus leads the goalscoring charts of the current edition, with a number recorded by a player for the first time in 3 matches of the Champions League competition that began in 1997.
Koussay Ben Maacha replaced South African Elias Mokwana in the 82nd minute, becoming the fourth youngest Tunisian player to participate in the continental club cups.
And in the 90+5 minute, Koussay became the seventh youngest scorer in the history of the Champions League since the group stage, at the age of 17 years and 189 days.
Ben Maacha thus surpassed the record of Nigerian Julius Aghahowa, which he had set in the jersey of Espérance in September 1999, as the youngest scorer for North African clubs since the group stage.
Koussay Ben Maacha also broke the record of his club's son, Ali Zitouni, who set it a quarter of a century ago, at the age of 18 and 251, as the youngest Arab scorer in the African Champions League since the group stage.
