BOLIVIA'S RECORD
Bolivia end their “record” winless streak
Bolivia’s win as visitors vs Chile (2-1) in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on 11 September takes a historical character. It ended the longest streak without winning away games in the entire history of World Cup Qualifiers.
Bolivia had gone 67 games in a row without winning as visitors. Their series started after 7-1 away win against Venezuela on 18 July 1993 and included 7 full campaigns (from 1998 to 2022) with few additional games at both ends (1994, 2024).
The former record “holder” was Luxembourg who failed to win their first 53 World Cup away qualifiers starting from their debut in the competition in 1937. They took not less than 71 years (and 16 full campaigns) until it finally happened on 10 September 2008 vs Switzerland (2-1). Curiously, Switzerland ended as the winners of that qualifying group.
San Marino take now the third place on the “podium” with 38 such consecutive games. They are still unable to win any World Cup qualifier, since their debut in 1992, and managed to avoid a defeat only twice, including their so far only away draw vs Latvia (1-1) in 2001.
