The statistics on 2024 Euro day 16 (29 June) - Round of 16

Switzerland vs Italy 2-0

*Switzerland have reached the Euro quarter-finals for the 2nd time in a row (2021, 2024). Before that, they entered this stage at a major tournament as long ago as in 1954 World Cup.
In total, Switzerland got in the quarterfinals of major tournaments 5 times (also 1934 and 1938 World Cups).
They never yet reached the semifinals stage.

*The 1954 World Cup was just the last major tournament (until now) where Switzerland had eliminated Italy (4-1 in a tiebreaker match of the group stage).

*Switzerland failed to beat Italy in all the previous 11 games between them (6 draws, 5 losses).
The last time they defeated the “Scuadra Azzurra” in 1993, in a qualification for the 1994 World Cup (1-0).

*Since the Euro format expanded to 24 teams, the title holders have been eliminated every time at the same stage, in the round of 16, without scoring a goal:
Spain at Euro 2016 lost 0-2 to Italy,
Portugal at Euro 2020 lost 0-1 to Belgium.

*Switzerland are unbeaten in regular time (not counting shootouts) in the last 7 games at the Euro finals (3 wins, 4 draws). It’s their longest such series in the competition history (previously they passed 6 games without defeats between 2008 and 2020 editions).

*Switzerland win 2 games in the same Euro edition for the first time (also 3-1 vs Hungary).
Italy lose 2 games in the same Euro edition for the first time (also 0-1 vs Spain).

*Three players of Bologna (Remo Freuler, Michel Aebischer und Dan Ndoye) contributed in 7 goals Switzerland has scored so far in the Euro 2024 by 3 goals and 4 assists.

Germany vs Denmark 2-0

*It was the 5th duel between Germany and Denmark in major tournaments. From the previous 4, Denmark won two (2-0 in the 1986 World Cup and
2-0 in Euro 1992 final) and Germany as many (2-0 in Euro 1988 and 2-1 in Euro 2012).

*Germany have finally ended their nightmare streak of 3 major tournament without getting in the quarter-finals.
At World Cup 2018 and 2022, they were eliminated in the group stage, at Euro 2020 in the round of 16.
Until 2018, they never linked 3 major tournaments in a row without reaching the quarterfinals.

*Germany have won 3 of their 4 games at Euro 2024, as many as in their previous 12 games across major competitions (World Cups, Euros).

*Germany’s 10 goals at Euro 2024 is their joint-most at a single Euro edition.

*Denmark have failed to win any of their last 8 major tournament games (1 at Euro 2020, 3 at World Cup 2022, 4 at Euro 2024).

*At the same time, Denmark suffered only 1 defeat in their last 15 games (9 wins, 5 draws); it was 0-2 vs Northern Ireland in November 2023).

*The Danes lost all 6 matches against the Euro host teams (also in 1984 to France, in 1988 to Germany, in 1992 to Sweden, in 2000 to the Netherlands, in 2021 to England).

*Kai Havertz became the 3rd player to score 2+ goals at multiple Euro editions for Germany, along with Rudi Völler and Mario Gomez.

*Only Jürgen Klinsmann and Mario Gomez have scored more Euro goals (5 each) than Havertz (4).

*Havertz is the first German player to score 2 penalty goals in the Euro history.

*Jamal Musiala became the 2nd player at Euro 2024 to score 3 goals, after Georges Mikautadze (Georgia).

*Musiala scored his third goal at Euro aged 21 years 124 days; in the history of the competition, only Wayne Rooney (England) achieved this at a younger age (18 years 241 days at the Euro 2004).

*Musiala is now the Germany's youngest ever scorer in a Euro Cup knockout match.

*Musiala is the first German player to score 3+ goals in a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup (when Thomas Müller scored 5 and André Schürrle 3).

*Manuel Neuer has played for Germany his 19th game in Euros; he surpassed the national record of Bastian Schweinsteiger (18).

*For the theird time, a Euro match was temporarily suspended (for 25 minutes) due to weather conditions (thunderstorm).
In two previous cases, the reason of suspension was a rain:
Ukraine vs France in 2012, in Donetsk (for 55 minutes),
Ukraine vs Northern Ireland in 2016, in Lyon (for 5 minutes).
