The statistics on Copa America 2024 matchday 2 (28-29 June)

Panama vs USA 2-1

*Panama beat USA in the 2nd consecutive year and 2nd consecutive major tournament: on 12 July 2023 they eliminated the United States in the Gold Cup semifinals.
Before this, Panama won in this rivalry only once while United States got as many as 17 wins.

*The first match in the history of the Copa América with 3 corrections by VAR: goal disallowed to the USA, expulsion of a USA player (Weah) and penalty disallowed to Panama.

*Folarin Balogun is just the second USA player to score in consecutive Copa América appearances (2), after Clint Dempsey (3 straight games with scoring in the 2016 edition).
In the meantime, he is first ever player from the United States to score in both starting games of the team in an edition of the Copa América.

*César Blackman has scored his first goal for the Panama (in 23 games).
He is the 2nd Panama player to score from outside the area in the Copa América, after Miguel Camargo (against Chile in 2016).

Uruguay vs Bolivia 5-0

*Uruguay achieved their biggest victory in a Copa América match since the 5-0 against Argentina on 16 December 1959.

*Uruguay scored 8 goals in their first 2 games in a Copa América edition for the first time since 1967 (when they started with two 4-0 wins against Bolivia and Venezuela).

*With two games played, Uruguay already have more goals in the current edition of the Copa América (8) than in any of their 4 previous participations in the tournament.

*Bolivia have equaled the 2nd worst losing streak (14 consecutive games) in the history of the Copa América, alongside Venezuela between 1995 and 2004.
Ecuador still hold the historical anti-record of the competition (17 consecutive defeats between 1939 and 1945).

*Federico Valverde became the first Real Madrid player to score for Uruguay in the history of the Copa América.

*Darwin Núñez prolonged his scoring series with Uruguay to 7 games. He equaled the best streak in the history of “Celeste”, established by the legendary Héctor Scarone (between 28 August 1927 and 13 June 1928).
Núñez is now in just one step from the world record of XXI century; 8-game scoring streak was achieved by 4 players, last of them Leo Messi between 3 December 2022 and 8 September 2023.

*5 different players from Uruguay (Pellistri, Darwin Núñez, Maxi Araujo, Valverde and Bentancur) have scored in the same Copa América match for the first time since 8 March 1959. That day, also against Bolivia, they scored 6 (Sasía, Climbing, Guaglianone, Borges, Douksas and Domingo Pérez).

*5 different players from Uruguay (Ronald Araujo, Maxi Araujo, De la Cruz, Pellistri and De Arrascaeta) have provided an assist in the same Copa América match, something that no team has achieved since Brazil against Haiti in 2016 ( Filipe Luis, Jonas, Dani Alves, Elías and Gil).

Colombia vs Costa Rica 3-0

*Colombia have increased to 10 games their winning streak (the best in their history). They surpassed Argentina and Peru whose best historical streak consists of 9 games.
Now Colombia is one of just 2 South American nations to ever reach such series, along with Brazil who had the winning streaks of 10,13 and 14 games in their history.

*Colombia keep also the best ongoing streak of consecutive victories in national team football; the next behind them are Argentina (7) and Spain (5).

*Three different players (Luis Díaz, Davinson Sánchez and Jhon Córdoba) have scored for Colombia  in a Copa América match for the first time since 4 July 1999 (Iván Córdoba, Edwin Congo and Johnnier Montaño vs Argentina).

*James Rodríguez is the first Colombian player to distribute 3 assists in a single edition of the Copa América since Carlos Valderrama did so in 1987.

*Colombia have scored 3 headed goals in an edition of the Copa América for the first time.

Paraguay vs Brazil 1-4

*Paraguay have lost the first two matches of a Copa América edition for the first time since 1967.

*Brazil have defeated Paraguay in the Copa América last time in 2001 (3-1).
Between 2001 and 2024, Brazil met Paraguay 5 times within the tournament and failed to beat them (4 draws, 1 loss).

*Lucas Paquetá (Brazil) is the first player to score a goal and miss a penalty in the Copa América since Enner Valencia did it against Bolivia on 15 June 2015.

*Vinícius Júnior is the first Brazilian player to score a brace in the first half in a Copa América match since Philippe Coutinho against Haiti on 8 June 2016.
