DEMETRIO ALBERTINI ALWAYS LEADER

Albertini lost one world record for unbeaten games – but retains another

Rodri lost yesterday with his Manchester City in the FA Cup final against Manchester United (1-2). This means he stopped his super-long unbeaten runs at 74 (in all competitions for club) and 73 (in all games for club and country).
In the first of the categories mentioned, he set a new world record, in the second he did not reach the world record held by Demetrio Albertini.

Now we publish the Albertini's remarkable unbeaten series from 1989-1993. Or rather, several parallel series that the Italian defensive midfielder developed during these years.
These were the golden years of Milan. The “Rossoneri” rarely lost at that time. And for the time being, Albertini managed to successfully avoid participation in these rare defeats. Therefore, it was he who, among his no less, and in many cases even greater, partners, managed to achieve the best individual performance in the category in question.

Another detail that adds color to Albertini's achievement: unlike his partners, his great streaks coincided with the beginning of his career in top football. That is, he did not lose at all at the top level for almost the first 4 years of his career!
(Here it should be noted that we are leaving out of consideration the period when he played for Padova on loan. There he had defeats, but only in Serie B matches, and they, naturally, do not belong to the top level).

We have already mentioned in a number of previous publications that Albertini until recently held the world record for the longest unbeaten streak in all club competitions, together with Paolo Maldini (73 each). Until they were both overtaken by Rodri (74), the new record holder in this category.
What we have not yet reported before: Albertini was and still remains the world record holder for the length of such a streak in all games in general, for club and national team - 82.
To the 73 for the club, he added another 9 for the Squadra Azzurra, in which he also didn't lose.

Rodri was also developing a similar streak, which he yesterday closed at 73 games. That is, 1 game shorter than his only-club run. This happened because the Spaniard’s total run began a little later than the only-club run.
Returning to Albertini, the table on the left numbers separately the matches of the total series (T), club series (C) and league series (L); in the last he was unbeaten for 53 games in a row. This is not a record, but nevertheless one of the best results in the history of the top 5 European leagues.
All 3 of his personal streaks ended on 18 April 1993 in a Serie A match for Milan against Juventus (1-3).
