UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Semi final
FC Barcelona for the 4th consecutive year in the Final !
- After their first defeat in Barcelona since 2016, the IFFHS World’s Best Club 2023 won in Chelsea tonight with 2 goals of Aitana Bonmati and Fridolina Rölfo to qualify for the 4th consecutive final of the competition .
- The best team was the winner in a full Stamford Bridge ( 39 398 Spectators – a new Record crowd), playing the best football. Chelsea were down to 10 players after Buchanan was sent off in minute 59.
- It was the last UEFA Champions League game for Emma Hayes, the Chelsea coach. She will be the new manager of the USA Women’s National team !
- After long injuries, Millie Bright, Nathalie Björn and Maren Mjelde were back in the Chelsea squad. It was not enough.
- It is the first time since 2006 (Frankfurt and Potsdam) that a team, losing the first leg at home, qualify for the final in the second leg !
- Catarina Macario made a great comeback in London, being the most dangerous Chelsea player. She was replaced when the red card of Buchanan brought Hayes to change the roles.
- Playing in London, Barcelona dominated the game with 68% of ball possession , playmaker and goalscorer Aitana Bonmati as their leader.
- Barcelona will now meet the winner of the second semi final between Lyon and Paris SG in Bilbao on 26 May.
