21 -  JAPAN – COSTA RICA    2-0          (GROUP C)



 Aoba Fusion scored the second goal for Japan.

FACTS AND STATS

 

-       With the comfortable victory 2-0 over Costa Rica, Japan won their opening two games at a World Cup for a third time, having done it in 2011 (World Champion) and 2015 (finalist).

-       Costa Rica wait always for a first win in the World Cup History. 2 draws and 3 defeats until now were registered.

-       The last meeting between the two teams was in April 2017 with a 3-0 for Japan.

-       Daniela Solera, Costa Rica’s Goalkeeper, made 10 saves against Spain, becoming the first Goalkeeper since 2015 to make 10 or more saves. Today she had so many work against Japan with  9 saves !

-       Japan is one of the most impressive teams so far and has already secure their place in the last 16 !

-       Spain broke a new record today with the large 5-0 over Zambia. It is the largest win of Spain at a World Cup in the History ! 

-       Irene Paredes and Alex Putellas played all tthe last 9 games of Spain in World Cup.

-       Salma Paralluelo at 19 years and 250 days broke the record of the youngest player of Spain at a World Cup.

-       Jennifer Hermoso played her 100th international cap and scored twice to reach 50 goals ! She is also IFFHS World’s Best Top Goal scorer in national league with Pachuca and all competitions included !

-       After the injury of Hazal Nali before the World Cup and the red card of Catherine Musonda in the opening game, it was the third Goalkeeper Eunice Sakala who played today against Spain.

-       Zambia is the 40th nation to participate at a World Cup.

-       With Alexia Putellas shining on her return, Spain impressed like Japan and the two teams are already qualified for the last 16, playing next week for the first place in their Group.

-       Canada won the important game against Ireland with the winning goal of Adriana Leon.

-       Captain Katie Mc Cabe scored the FIRST goal in the WORLD CUP HISTORY for Ireland ! It was also her 19th goal in her 75th international game.

-       Abbie Larkin is the unique U20 player of ireland. With 18 years and 84 days, she is the youngest player in the History of Ireland.

-       Canada lost only 1 of their 8 last World Cup games with 5 clean sheets.

-       After her missed penalty of the opening game, Christine Sinclair was on the bench in the first half before coming in the game and helping her team to take the 3 points.
