OCEANIA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE  2023

AS Academy Féminine beat Koloale FC 4-1 and win the inaugural OFC Women’s Champions League title in Port Moresby. The New Caledonian side, who needed at least a draw to clinch the title, were surprised in the first half after a great goal of Koloale captain Ileen Pegi. Christelle Wahnawe scored her 6th goal of the tournament to the 1-1 before half time. In the second half, AS Academy was sovereign. Alice Wenessia, crowned as the Woman of the Match, scored twice, with also a goal of Louise Luepak.

Originally six teams were ranked in two groups of 3, but New Zealand Champion Eastern Suburbs pulled out of the competition after the draw, because of costs, timing and security. So the only 5 teams played each other in a championship organisation. AS Academy Féminine had stunned home-town favourites Hekari United on the opening match day. That 2-1 victory, alongside 4-1 and 5-0 triumphs over Labasa Women FC and Kiwi FC respectively had the New Caledonian side needing only a point to claim the title. Instead they finish the tournament with a perfect four wins from four matches and head home to Noumea on Sunday as the inaugural OFC Women’s Champions League champions.
