THE MOST TITLED FOREIGN COACH IN BRAZIL

Abel Ferreira: all-time most titled foreign coach in Brazil

This spring, Portuguese Abel Ferreira has inscribed his name in in the history of Brazilian football as the foreign coach with most titles.
He has added Supercopa do Brasil and Campeonato Paulista to the collection of tournaments that he won with Palmeiras. Having signed on 30 October 2020, he became extremely successful: 8 trophies in just 2.5 years!
Abel Ferreira equaled the all-time record of the Uruguayan Felix Magno who also won 8 titles, between 1943 and 1959. But Magno’s collection includes only the state championships, not the strongest ones: 1 title of Catarinense league with Avai, 2 of Mineiro with Atletico Mineiro and 5 of Paranaense with Coritiba.
The list of tournaments obtained by Abel Ferreira (see the table below) looks much more solid. Particularly, it includes 3 international trophies (2 Copa Libertadores and 1 Recopa Sudamericana).
The next coaches in this ranking are Juan Cely (Argentina), with 7 titles (between 1964 and 1990), and Ventura Cambon (Uruguay), with 6 (between 1944 and 1951). They both, as well as Magno, won only regional and national tournaments.
