Senegal score historic quartet in one year.
Senegal football is clearly headed for the skies with the winning of the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023. That victory that adds onto the achievement at the 2022 AFCON, Beach Soccer and 2022 CHAN, respectively, in Cameroon, Mozambique and Algeria in just one year is historic by IFFHS standards as it is the first time an African country is achieving that: call it double brace or a quartet.
The Young Teranga Lions duplicated the performances of their seniors when they defeated the Young Scorpions of Gambia in the final game at Cairo International Stadium on Saturday, 2-0. Two headers, one by Sulaymane Faye in the 6th minute and then by Mamadou Camara in the 56th minute ensured victory for the side which had previously finished runners-up in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The performance by the Young Teranga Lions received a seductive coating with the overwhelming individual accolades they tallied at dusk: Best player(Lamine Camara); Golden boot(Pape Demba Diop), Best goalkeeper(Landing Badji). Nigeria took the Fair play trophy and bronze medal as well.
