THE RECORDS OF DIEGO SIMEONE
Diego Simeone’s records in Spain
The match on 4 March where Atlético Madrid crushed Sevilla 6-1 was Diego Simeone's 613th as Atlético manager. He became the new record holder of Spanish football among coaches on the number of games with a single club in all official matches, ahead of Luis Aragonés, who led the same Atlético in 612 matches.
But it should be noted that for Aragonés this amount includes 42 matches of Atlético in the second division (season 2001-02). Thus, he has 572 top-level matches, while Simeone has all of his 613 at top level.
Under this condition, the previous record holder was Miguel Muñoz with 605 official appearances for Real Madrid.
Simeone recently took away from Muñoz also the record for the number of matches with one club in the first division. “El Cholo” has now 426 matches with Atlético in La Liga. Muñoz had 424 with Real Madrid.
