The statistics on 2022 World Cup day 19 (10 December)

*Morocco (beating Portugal 1-0) became the first African team to qualify for the semi-final of a World Cup edition. Three African teams to reach a quarter-final previously were all eliminated at this stage (Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010).

*Morocco became also the just 2nd team outside UEFA and CONMEBOL to reach the semi-finals, after South Korea in 2002 (who lost there the third place game against Turkey).

*Morocco have conceded only 1 goal in their first 5 matches at this tournament. There are only 3 precedents in XXI century for a team to concede so little at this stage of a World Cup edition: Germany in 2002, Italy and Portugal in 2006.

*Yassine Bounou (Morocco) became the first African goalkeeper with 3 clean sheets in a single edition of the World Cup.

*Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently finished his World Cup career still failing to score in the knockout stage (8 appearances, 570 minutes and 27 shots in the process there).

*Cristiano Ronaldo has played his 196th game for Portugal and equaled Bader Al-Mutawa (Kuwait); both are now most capped active players in the world.

*France (beating England 2-1) became the first reigning world champions to reach the World Cup semi-finals since Brazil in 1998 and the first world champions from Europe to do so after Germany in 1958.

*It was the first game for France to avoid defeat from England at World Cup; in their 2 previous games against each other “Three Lions” were the winning side (2-0 in 1966 and 3-1 in 1982).

*England have been eliminated from the quarter-final stages of the World Cup for the 7th time, more than any other side in the history of the competition.

*France are unbeaten in each of Kylian Mbappe's 14 starts at major tournaments, winning all 10 such game at the World Cup.

*Kane is the 2nd player to score and miss a penalty in the same game in World Cup history. The first was Michal Bilek (Czechoslovakia), vs United States on 10 June 1990.

*It was the first time in the entire history of the World Cup that a player (Kane) has scored a penalty against his club team-mate (Lloris,  Tottenham).

*Antoine Griezmann is the first French player to give 2 assists in the knockout stage of the World Cup, since Dominique Rocheteau did it against Italy on 06.17.1986.

*Aurelien Tchouameni (France) is the first player to score a goal and commit a penalty in the same World Cup game since 15 July 2018 (Ivan Perišić, Croatia, in the final against France).
