*Canada (1-2 vs Morocco) have lost all 6 of their matches at the World Cup; this is the joint-worst 100% losing record in the competition along with El Salvador and 2nd longest losing streak from a team's debut (after Mexico, 9 losses in a row between 1930 and 1958).

*Two African teams (Morocco and Senegal) have qualified from the group stage of a World Cup for just the 2nd time (after Algeria and Nigeria in 2014). 

*Morocco won the group at World Cup for the 2nd time after 1986 (last time they advanced to playoff stage).
In total, this is 5th time for an African team to finish top of their group (also Cameroon in 1990, Nigeria in 1994 and 1998).

*Belgium (0-0 vs Croatia) failed to qualify from group stage of a major tournament (World Cup, Euro) for the first time in XXI century (6 such tournaments over that period in total).

*Belgium have scored only 1 goal in the group: fewest goals scored by a seeded team of a group after reaching the semifinals in the previous World Cup edition since France in 2002 (0 goals). 
Uruguay in 1974 and Poland in 1986 also have scored just 1 goal.

*Morocco ended their streak of 6 consecutive games without conceding a goal. They were pretty close to their maximum (9 games in a row) achieved twice, in 1997 and 2021.

*Germany have failed to qualify from the group stage at two World Cups in a row (2018, 2022); previously they got past the first round in 16 consecutive tournaments since 1954.

*Kai Havertz became the second German player to score a brace as a substitute at the World Cup after Andre Schürrle (2014 vs Brazil).

*Spain have lost against an Asian team (1-2 vs Japan) for the first time in its history. They had 13 wins and 2 draws (both times vs South Korea, in 1994 and in 2002) in such rivalry before.

*Japan became the 3rd team in World Cup history to win twice at a single edition after losing at half-time (vs Germany and vs Spain), along with Brazil in 1938 and Germany in 1970.

*Spain became the first European team to field 4 starters under-21 (Balde, Gavi, Pedri and Nico Williams) in a World Cup match since Yugoslavia vs Bolivia on 17 July 1930.
