*The 2022 World Cup set the new negative record on the number of goalless draws in the first matchday (4 from 16 games). The previous record was three such 0-0 results at 1982 edition (from 12 games).

*Breel Embolo (Switzerland) became the 2nd player in World Cup history to score against his country of birth (Cameroon).
Curiously, the first such player (Alfred Bickel) has also scored for Switzerland, against his country of birth (Germany) in 1938.

*For the first time in the history of the World Cup a team (Uruguay) has used 4 players aged 35+ years in the same match (Diego Godín, Luis Suárez, Martín Cáceres, Edinson Cavani).
