Biggest Spanish failure in Champions League history
*For the first time in the whole UCL history, 3 Spanish teams (Barcelona, Atletico, Sevilla) fall in the first round (moreover, all three are eliminated one matchday early).
*Barcelona are eliminated in the (first) UCL group stage for 5th time at all;
for 2nd time it happened already before playing their 5th game in the group (the first such case was in 1997);
for 2nd time in two consecutive seasons (after 1997 & 1998).
*Barça only lost 2 home games by 3+ goal margin over the first 27 years of the Champions League. It has happened 4 times in the last 2 years (0-3 vs Juventus, 1-4 vs PSG, twice 0-3 vs Bayern).
*Barcelona were defeated in all last 6 games vs Bayern; with the total goal difference 4-22.
*For the 3rd time in the entire history of the Champions League, Barça have not made a single shot on goal in a complete match. All 3 times happened within last 13 months (vs Bayern 0-3 on 14 September 2021, vs Benfica 0-3 on 29 September 2021 and again vs Bayern 0-3 yesterday).
*Robert Lewandowski suffered in his 5 Champions League games with Barcelona as many defeats (3) as in his last 43 Champions League games for Bayern.
*Lewandowski is eliminated in a Champions League group stage for the first time since 2011-12 (which was his first participation in the tournament, with Borussia Dortmund). He had 10 consecutive qualifications after that.
*Julian Nagelsmann (Bayern) became the first coach to win 4 games against Barcelona in Champions League history (José Mourinho is the next with 3 wins).
