IFFHS STATISTICS - COPA LIBERTADORES RECORD

Palmeiras set new Copa Libertadores record on goals in a group stage

Having finished on 24 May their Copa Libertadores group with a win vs Deportivo Táchira (4-1), Palmeiras reached 25 goals for 6 games. It is highest amount for any club in any single group stage in the history of the tournament since 1971 when the current 4-team group format was established.
The previous record set by River Plate in 2020 (21 goals) lived just 2 years and was surpassed with a solid advance.
There were 7 cases overall with 20+ goals scored by a team in a group stage. Palmeiras and Cruzeiro achieved this twice.
On the same day and in the same group, the opposite record was beaten: on the number of goal conceded by a team in a single group stage. Independiente Petrolero (Bolivia) were defeated by Emelec (Ecuador) 0-7 and finished the group with 26 conceded goals in 6 games, one more than previous “record” holders, Binancial (Peru), have conceded in 2020.
