GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA HONORED !
THE IFFHS TROPHY FOR DONNARUMMA
Last wednesday, Gianluigi Donnarumma received the IFFHS Award of THE WORLD'S BEST GOALKEEPER 2021 in Paris. Since 1987, the IFFHS designates each year the World's Best Goalkeeper; Jean-Marie Pfaff (Belgium) was the first winner and 3 Goalkeepers won 5 Awards each : Iker Casillas ( 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), Gianluigi Buffon (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2017) and Manuel Neuer (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020) !
Donnarumma is the third Italian Goalkeeper to win this Award after Walter Zenga (1989, 1990, 1991) and Gianluigi Buffon (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2017). He played in 2021 with Milan AC and Paris SG (the IFFHS takes in consideration the year from January to December , not the season). Since 2003, Buffon, Casillas and Neuer won 15 Awards (!), their domination was only stopped by Petr Cech (2005), Thibaut Courtois (2018) and Alisson Becker (2019). With Gianluigi Donnarumma, the young generation is on the Top, maybe for a new era.
