IFFHS statistics on Champions’ League group stage round 6 (December 7)

*Six red cards (Walker, Welinton, Carrasco, Wendell, Marchesín and Barella) is a joint record in the Champions League history for a single day (there were as many only on 21 October 2009).

*Liverpool became the first English club ever to win all 6 group stage games in a Champions League season.

*Mohamed Salah is the 2nd player to score in 7 successive Champions League away matches of his club, after Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 2013-2014).

*Salah became the first Liverpool player to score 20+ goals in 5 seasons in a row in all competitions since Ian Rush who did it in 6 consecutive seasons (1981-82 to 1986-87).

*Marco Asensio has scored Real Madrid's 600th goal in the Champions League. Real Madrid is the most scoring club in the competition running ahead of Bayern (546), Barcelona (537), Manchester United (398), Juventus (333).

*With both Real Madrid goals vs Inter (2-0, Kroos and Asensio) coming from outside of the area, Real Madrid produced the first ever streak of 5 consecutive goals produced such way in the history of Champions League.

*Sébastien Haller (Ajax) has scored also in the last group stage game vs Sporting (4-2). Thus, he became the 2nd player in CL history to score in all 6 group stage matches in a single season, after Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 2017-18).

*No one player in CL history took so few games (6) to score his first 10 goals as Haller. The next after him are Erling Haaland (took 7 games), Adriano, Firmino and Mané (all 11). Messi took 23 games for this, Cristiano Ronaldo 37.

*Already after the group stage, Haller is only 1 goal short from the record for an African player to score in a single season of European competitions. Drogba (Marseille, 2003-04), Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund, 2015-16), Salah (Liverpool, 2017-18) have scored 11 goals each. Mané (Liverpool, 2017-18), Twumasi (Astana, 2017-18) have scored 10 – as many as Haller by now.

*Club Brugge became the first ever team in CL history to concede 4+ goals in 4 consecutive games.

*Leipzig are eliminated in a CL group with 15 goals scored. It’s only 4th case in the history of competition. Manchester United were eliminated in the 2020-21 season also with 15, Chelsea in 2012-13 and Salzburg in 2019-20 with 16.

*Kylian Mbappé (Paris SG) became the youngest player in CL history (22 years 352 days) to reach the 30-goal milestone. After a brace vs Club Brugge, he has 31 goal at his tally. 

*Mbappé took only 6 minutes 20 seconds to score twice vs Club Brugge. It’s 2nd fastest brace in CL history, slightly behind only Rodrygo (Real Madrid) who made it after 6 minutes 12 seconds vs Galatasary in November 2019.
The next in this category are Sébastien Haller (Ajax, 8'07" vs Sporting, 2021), Gonzalo Higuaín (Juventus, 8'08" vs Tottenham, 2018), Julio Cruz (Inter, 8'30" vs Spartak, 2006).

*Lionel Messi (Paris SG) has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo as the player with the most penalties taken (22 each) in the history of Champions League. Cristiano has 19 scored and 3 missed, Messi 18 scored and 4 missed.

*Messi has also equaled Cristiano Ronaldo as the player to have scored against the highest number of different teams (38) in Champions League history. The next are Benzema (34), Raúl (33), Ibrahimovic and Lewandowski (29 each).

*Besiktas (0 pts, -16 goal difference) became 3rd worst team of a single season in CL history. Only Dinamo Zagreb in 2011-12 (0 pts, -19) and 
Spartak Moscow in 2002-03 (0 pts, -17) performed worse. Levski in 2006-07 and Zilina in 2010-11 also had 0 pts and -16.
