IFFHS - 26/06/2021 - EURO 2020 STATISTICS

*Italy set the new World record of the series without conceding a goal for national teams – 1.168 minutes! The series lasted since October 2020 and was broken in the game vs Austria (2-1) by the Sasa Kalajdzic goal.

The previous World record belonged to same Italy (1972-74, with Dino Zoff not conceding during 1.143 minutes). The current goalkeeper of Scuadra Azzurra Donnarumma’s personal series lasted 987 minutes.

*Italy set the new national record on unbeaten series: 31 matches (since 2018) surpassing the old achievement (30 consecutive games without a defeat from 1935 to 1939).
This is joint 3rd best series in the history of World football, after Spain (35 games in 2007-09) and Brazil (35 games in 1993-96). Spain also had the series of 31 games in 1994-97.

*Italy set the new national record on the series of wins: 12 games. It surpassed the series of 11 wins achieved also under Roberto Mancini from November 2018 to November 2019.
The World record in this category is 15 games (Spain).

*Italy matched the record of Germany (set in 2010-12) on consecutive wins in the games of European championships (including qualification) – 14.
This record can be equaled tonight by Belgium as well (if Belgium beat Portugal).

*The game Italy – Austria equaled the record of Euro finals on the number of goals scored in extra-time (3) set in 1984 (the semifinal game France – Portugal)

*Federico Chiesa managed to score at Euro as his father Enrico did 25 years ago (Euro 1996, the game vs Czech Republic).

*Denmark became the first team in Euro finals history to score 4+ goals in two consecutive matches (4-1 vs Russia, 4-0 vs Wales).

*Denmark achieved joint 2nd biggest win in playoff games in Euro finals history (4-0 vs Wales). The same score was registered also in the games Spain - Italy (2012, final) and Belgium - Hungary (2016). The record belongs to the game Netherlands - Serbia (6-1 in Euro 2000).

*Denmark have scored more goals from outside the box than any other side at Euro 2020 (3). Only France (5 in 1984) and Belgium (4 in 2016) have scored more from distance in a single edition of the competition.

*Denmark is the only team in the Euro history to get in quarterfinals after losing two first games in the group. Worldwide, there were 6 similar cases before: Costa Rica (Copa América 2004), Colombia (Copa Oro 2005), USA (Confederation Cup 2009), Cuba (Copa Oro 2013 and 2015), Vietnam (Asian Cup 2019).

*Wales became the first team to receive 2 red cards in an Euro edition since Russia and Switzerland in 2004 (Ethan Ampadu vs Italy, Harry Wilson vs Denmark).

*Two goalkeepers from the same club team (Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward, Leicester City) face off in an Euro finals match (Wales vs Denmark) for the first time in the history of competition.
In the World Cup there was only one such precedent: Serbia-Ghana, 2010 (Vladimir Stojkovic and Richard Kingson, Wigan Athletic)

*Aaron Ramsey (Juventus) prevented one team (Wales) from playing in an Euro game (vs Denmark) with 11 starters from the same league  (England) without that league being that of the country that the team represents.
