SEBASTIAN ABREU’S WORLD RECORD
Sebastian Abreu is continuing his quest to go down as the greatest footballing journeyman after signing for his 31th club at the age of 44.
At March 31, 2021, the former Uruguayan international has agreed terms with club Sud America in his country and has signed a new contract with his club Number 31 in his professional career !
Abreu made his debut in his country Uruguay in 1995 and has gone on to play for clubs in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Greece ,Ecuador, Israel, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and his native Uruguay.
In 2017, he broke the Guinness World Record (picture) for the most professional football clubs played (26) for when he signed a deal with Chilean Primera División side Audax Italiano.
Abreu has played since then for a further five clubs !
Nicknamed 'El Loco', Abreu has also been capped 70 times by Uruguay (26 goals) and won the Copa America in 2011, after being one of the Uruguay National Team at the World Cup 2010 !
Abreu has scored 349 goals in 717 appearances across his 27-year career (club sources).
He also had brief spells in charge of both Santa Tecla and Boston River as a player-manager.
