CARLI LLOYD IN THE 300 CAPS CLUB TODAY ?

If she plays today for the United States Women's National Team against Sweden in Stockholm, Carli Lloyd will become only the third soccer player in history to make 300 international appearances for her country. She will follow her compatriots, Kristine Lilly and Christie Pearce Rampone into this exclusive club. Now 38, Lloyd is a double world champion and double Olympic champion but to reach 300 caps in international football sets her apart again. In the men's international game, no player has made more international appearances than Malaysia's Koh Chin Ann with 224 caps and Egypt's Ahmed Hassan who represented his country on 184 occasions.

Heading that list is the first women to reach the 300 mark, Kristine Lilly, who represented her country over 23 years and ended up with a remarkable 354 international caps. The only other player to reach 300 was another former United States captain, Christie Pearce Rampone, who played 18 years of international soccer and finished with 311 caps. Lloyd made her international debut shortly before her 23rd birthday on July 10, 2005 against Ukraine but the longevity of her career is surpassed only by her ability to rise to the biggest occasions. Lloyd scored the decisive goals in successive Olympic soccer finals in 2008 and 2012 and her unforgettable first-half hat-trick in the 2015 Women's World Cup Final, conclusively demonstrated her match-winning capability. She will have turned 39 by the time the Tokyo Olympic Games commence but the opportunity is there for Lloyd to join Rampone, Shannon Boxx, Heather Mitts and Heather O'Reilly as the winner of three Olympic Gold Medals.
