In the FIFA World Cup history (1930-2014), 71 players from all continents (UEFA 44, CONMEBOL 17, CONCACAF 5, AFC 3, CAF 1 and OFC 1) participate also as coach at the greatest World competition. Brazil and Argentina (6 players each) have the most participations.

Ten players (Jackie Charlton 1966, Didi 1958/1962, Giovanni Ferrari 1934/1938, Alfredo Foni 1938, Jürgen Klinsmann 1990, Ricardo Lavolpe 1978, Diego Maradona 1986, Daniel Passarella 1978/1986, Rudi Völler 1990 and “Berti” Vogts 1974 ) won the World Cup only as Player.

One (Alf Ramsey 1966) won the World Cup only as coach.

Only two of the 71 won the World Cup as Player and as coach : Franz BECKENBAUER (1974 as Player and 1990 as coach) and Mario ZAGALLO (1958/1962 as Player and 1970 as coach). The German and the Brazilian hold this record since a long time !
