IFFHS CONTINENTAL STATS - UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (7 and 8 October 2025)

 

The new system of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (like for the men) has began this week with 9 games and 18 clubs.

 

-       Two goals of Cecilia Salvai allowed Juventus to take the 3 points vs Benfica in Torino.

-       The winner of the 2024/25 Champions League, Arsenal, was defeated at home by the team of Lyonnes (Olympique Lyon), winner of 8 Trophies since 2011 !

-       Alessia Russo, third of the Ballon d’Or 2025, was the first scorer of the game, but it was Melchie Dumornay, the Haîtian playmaker of Lyonnes, who was the match winner , scoring two goals with an extraordinary performance.

-       FC Barcelona, winner of 3 European Trophies in the last 5 seasons, took a fantastic start, beating Germany’s champion, FC Bayern 7 goals to 1 ! 

-       Alexia Putellas and particularly Esmee Brugts were brilliant, Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina (two goals each) scored important goals for the IFFHS World Rankings !

-       First match of Champions League in History for Paris FC ! The team led by Clara Mateo took one point against Belgium’s Leuven.

-       Linda Caicedo, IFFHS World’s Best youth Player 2022, second in 2023 and 2024, again one of the favorites in 2025,  was the Player of the Game Real Madrid – AS Roma. She gave 3 assists in the 6-2 win of Real, Caroline Weir and Alba Redondo scored each two goals.

-       One of the great favorites, Chelsea, conceded the draw in Twente ! The champion of Netherlands showed with their performance why they  jumped to rank 2 in the IFFHS Club World Ranking !

-       A goal of captain Maya Le Tissier allowed Manchester United to take the 3 points against Valerenga (Norway).

-       Atletico Madrid made the show in St Pölten (Austria) with a large 6-0 win. Fiamma Ianuzzi (one goal and two assists) was the Player of the Game.

-       Wolfsburg, winner of two Champions Leagues, made a great comeback, beating Paris SG 4-0 with Alexandra Popp of the best days !
