IFFHS CONTINENTAL NEWS - CHAN DAY 18
Complete Quarterfinals fixtures underway Friday and Saturday.
This follows the last group phase matches played this Tuesday. On Friday it will be Kenya vs Madagascar and then later on Tanzania vs Morocco. 24 hours later it will be Sudan vs Algeria followed by Senegal vs Uganda.
This Tuesday the highly anticipated Sudan vs Senegal game failed to entertain. Characterized by a first half during which Senegal kicked just once at goal out of five trials as against none for Sudan, the only happening worthy of mention was the 44th minute VAR check that controversially denied Sudan a penalty after Walieldin Daiyeen had been body-checked in the box. Yet another VAR check in the 67th minute ruled out a penalty when a Sudanese kick across the goal seemed to have been touched against the rules. At the end of the 0/0 tie, Sudanese captain Walieldin Daiyeen Khdir Safour of Al Hilal of Khartoum emerged mvp.
Between Nigeria and Congo, the former, with two defeats to their discredit resurrected to hit Congo, with previously two draws, 2/0. Yusuf Anas of Nasarawa United raised the curtains in the 56th minute followed by the second goal by Alimi Sikiru of Remo Stars FC in the third minute of stoppage time. The win carried them nowhere. Rather, the loss prevented the later from embracing a possible quarterfinals appearance.
