Morocco for Quarterfinals against Tanzania. DR Congo, Zambia out!
Group A ultimately spelt out the final verdict this Sunday after the two last group games: DR Congo 1 3 Morocco, and Zambia 0 1 Kenya. Morocco will face co-hosts Tanzania in the quarterfinals.
To pick qualification, Morocco trounced DR Congo 3/1 at the Nyayo National Stadium in spite of a near 50/50 percentage in ball possession. The winners made the qualitative difference in shots with 14 for 3 on goal for DR Congo and 6 for 4 on goal for Morocco. The latter took the lead on 8 minutes when Renaissance Sportive Berkane's Oussama Lamlaoui cut the trajectory of the ball from the flank in front of the keeper. Congolese equalizer was in style with a cross from Ibrahim Matobo propelled on with Agee Basiala's deviating header for AS Maniema Union's forward Jephte Kitambala to find the net on 44 minutes. A VAR check confirmed Magloire Ntambwe climbed on Khalid Baba's foot to justify a penalty. Captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat who plays for ASFAR shot from the spot to put scores at 2/1 on 70 minutes. Ten minutes on eventual mvp, Oussama Lamlaoui rifled a bullet into Congolese net from a cutback. 2 more goals by Morocco were found illicit.
In another game played simultaneously, Kenya edged Zambia at Kasarani 1/0. Ryan Wesley had benefitted from Boniface Muchiri's assist to score the 75th minute goal.
This Monday, it will be Algeria vs Niger, and South Africa vs Uganda.
