IFFHS CONTINENTAL STATS - CHAN DAY 6

Picture : Ibrahim Matobo Mubalu (19 years) led Congo to the victory !

DR Congo bounce back, Angola in trouble after second game in group A.

The Congolese lost their first game and so absolutely had to win at Nyayo Thursday to revive hopes. They did just that. The had played  five CHAN games without scoring even a goal. Zambia, benched on day one had just one test game before the tournament. That explained the particularly heated first half. But it took upto the second half for the goals to come. In the 52nd minute Ibrahim Matobo gave  keeper Willard Muanza no chance as he powered a deviation by Bola Kitembala straight into the net. Some ten minutes on, Horso Malanga capitalized on an assist from Oscar Kwabit to make it a brace for DR Congo. 19-yr-old Ibrahim Matobo was the mvp winner.

At the Kasarani Stadium, it was business from the very start. No wonder, as early as the 7th minute Angola forward Joaquim Paciencia converted an assist from Bernabe Muafulo wriggling past markers Omar Obud and Sylvester Owino to make it 1/0.  Kenya replicated from the penalty spot on 11 minutes following a VAR check that confirmed the rough tackle on Austin O Otieno. The victim punished his aggressor. But then heaven would collapse on Kenya and their 45 thousand-strong following when Marvin Omondi was shown the red card for rough tackle. Therefore, the Kenyans would absorb the huge pressure and stress for almost 70 minutes of numerical inferiority. In the very ultimate minute of stoppage time VAR consultation saved Kenya when it ruled an exquisitely effective header by Joao Chingando was done from an illicit position. Angolan Deivi Miguel Vieira emerged mvp.

Guinea vs Uganda, Algeria vs South Africa crown group C, day 2 this Friday.
