RIP JORGE COSTA

Jorge Costa, the captain of FC Porto’s Champions League-winning side of 2004, has died aged 53.

The former central defender, who was working as Porto’s football director, passed away from a cardiac arrest on Tuesday. The centre-back, known for his fierce competitiveness, spent 15 years at Porto and won 24 trophies at the club — including the Champions League in 2004 and the UEFA Cup the previous season. 

Costa, who played 50 times for Portugal at international level, went on to have a 17-year career in management including spells at Braga, Cluj, AEL Limassol and the Gabon national side.His final managerial job was at AVS in 2023-24, before returning to Porto in a directorial role.
