CHAN - day 3 - Hosts, Uganda dissected by Algeria 0/3

The huge home crowd at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Kampala hardly knew what was coming when they showed up for the second group C fixture for the day. They certainly forgot that Algeria had lost at the final of CHAN 2022 on home soil to Senegal and so had revenge in their veins coming to CHAN 2024. Three great goals in the 36th, 76th and 79th minutes courtesy of Ayoub Ghezala, Abdherramane Meziane and Soufiane Bayazid, respectively, put the Fennecs out of Cranes reach. Commendable fighting spirit by the Cranes fell short of the requirements for a possible redemption. No doubt when Meziane's piece of chemical finish landed him the Mvp, all nodded in approval.

Earlier in the same setting, a far less sumptuous fixture opening group C saw Guinea edge Niger 1/0. The Tunisian referee had to do a VAR check to validate the 48th minute goal clinically loaded in by Hafia Conakry's Sylla Lansana with assist courtesy of Alhassane Bangoura. The latter was quite a delight to watch. No wonder he won the Mvp award.

This Tuesday, the CHAN enters games 7 and 8 with the group D fixtures Congo/Sudan and Senegal/Nigeria.
