Lionel Messi holds a fantastic world record. Throughout his senior career, he has never been eliminated in the group stage of any official tournament, both at the club and international level.
Advancing to the round of 16 of the Club World Cup with Inter Miami, Leo extended his great run to 33 advances out of 33 possible (details in the table). No other player in top football history of those who ever had 100 percent rate of group stage promotions, has reached this number.
Moreover, Messi has neither been eliminated in group stages also at youth categories. To add 3 youth tournaments where he took part (U-20 World Cup, U-20 South American championship, Olympics), the number of his successful group stages raises to 36 of 36 possible.
