PRESENTATION

 

 

Peter Bolesław Schmeichel, born on 18 November 1963 in Gladsaxe (Denmark),  began his youth career with Høje-Gladsaxe with nine years old. He moved to Hero and Gladsaxe-Hero and Hvidovre before joining Brøndby IF in 1987.

In Brøndby IF, he played 139 matches from 1987 to 1991 and scored 2 goals. He won with Brøndby IF the Danish 1st Division Championtitle in 1987, 1988 and 1990; the Danish Superliga in 1991 and the Danish Cup in 1989. 

He joined Manchester United in 1991 and played there 398 matches, scoring 1 goal until 1999. He won with the Red Devils 5 Premier League titles (1992/93, 1993/94,1995/96, 1996/97 and 1998/99), 3 FA Cups  (1993/94, 1995/96, 1998/99 ) , the Football League Cup (1991), the FA Charity Shield (1993,94,96, 97) , the UEFA Super Cup (1991) and essentially the UEFA Champions League 1998/99 ! He has keeping 107 clean sheets in Premier League with ManU.

Peter Schmeichel won the IFFHS Awards The World’s Best Goalkeeper: 1992 and 1993 ! He  was nominated in the UEFA Dream Team each year from 1992 to 2002, was crowned 4 times best Goalkeeper in Denmark, 3 times in UEFA (1992, 1993, 1998) and Premier League Player of the Season: 1995–96. Regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, the IFFHS ranked him among the TOP 10 keepers of the 20th Century !

 

He played 66 matches with Sporting Clubs de Portugal from 1999 to 2001 and won the Primeira Liga 1999/2000 .For Aston Villa in season 2001–02, he played 36 matches, scoring 1 goal. He won there the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2001.

In Manchester City in season 2002–03, he played 31 matches and he has kept 9 clean sheets. Peter Schmeichel announced his retirement from football in April 2003.

He has been capped 129 times with the Denmark National Team, scoring one goal and keeping 26 clean sheets from 1987 until 2001. He won with Denmark the UEFA European Championship 1992 and was nominated many times as the Best Goalkeeper in Denmark, Europe and the World (IFFHS 1992 and 1993).
