IFFHS CONTINENTAL STATS – UEFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

 

-       She is the hero of the 5th round of women’s Champions League. Sveindis Jonsdottir, Iceland’s best international striker (23 years old), scored 4 second half goals to put Wolfsburg into the quarter finals with 6-1 thrashing AS Roma ! Jonsdottir came on the field in the 66th minute when her team VFL Wolfsburg led 2-1, needing a win by at least two goals margin to secure a spot in the ko stage. Sveindis Jonsdottir scored 4 goals in 25 minutes : a record in this competition !

-       Alexandra Popp added one new assist to her number (30), the most assists in the history of the Women’s Champions League. Now two more than Dzenifer Marozsan, the German Playmaker of Olympique Lyon.

-       Selma Bacha played her first international game in Istanbul after her long injury. She assists two goals in Lyon’s victory (6-0) against Galatasaray.

-       Eugenie Le Sommer scored her 50th Champions League goal in Istanbul. She is ranked at the third place in the ALL TIME GOAL SCORER Ranking of the competition behind Germany’s Anja Mittag (51) and sovereign leader Ada Hegerberg, who scored in the same time her 65th goal !

-       French Legend Defender Wendie Renard is already at rank 14 in the ALL TIME GOAL SCORER ranking of the competition, scoring her 35th goal against Galatasaray in her 121th Champions League game (record) !

-       Olympique Lyon and VFL Wolfsburg won their qualification for the quarter finals in the Group A,  Chelsea and Real Madrid in the Group B.

-       Signe Bruun scored a brace with Real Madrid in Glasgow, already her 9th and 10thinternational goal of the season, jumping so in the World’s Top 10 !

-       Chelsea won her 14th consecutive official competition match in 14 games (all games of the season) ! Sonia Bompastor, the French coach coming from Lyon to Chelsea, has surpassed Emma Hayes in London with a historical record !

-       FC Bayern and Arsenal secured their places in the quarter finals, they will play a final next week to determine the winner of the Group. Bayern has one point more.

-       Alessia Russo scored a brace for Arsenal, adding now 24 goals in 2024; 2 more than Pernille Harder, IFFHS Women’s World Best Player 2020, with FC Bayern.

-       Ena Mahmutovic, 19 years old, keeps the goal of FC Bayern München to replace for the season Maria Grohs.

-       Frida Leonhardsen Maanum, Norway’s player of Arsenal (11 international goals) and Klara Buhl, Germany’s striker of FC Bayern (9 international goals) have the opportunity next week to reach Lea Schueller, the leader of the IFFHS International Goals ranking with 14 goals !

-       Manchester City and FC Barcelona are also qualified for the quarter finals, next week they will play the last game to determine the first of the Group.

-       Salma Paralluelo made her comeback in Hammarby after 4 months absence !  She is always in the Goal Scorers World ranking Top 10 of 2024 with 29 goals in 7 months.
