Barcelona prevented Real Madrid from encroaching on their La Liga record

Real Madrid were close to equal all-time record for an unbeaten streak in the Spanish league that belongs to Barcelona (43 games; last 7 in 2016-17 and first 36 in 2017-18).
At the day of “El Clasico” (26 October), “Blancos” collected 42 consecutive league games without defeats (31 wins, 11 draws). Their last defeat in the league was dated back to 24 September 2023 (1-3 vs Atlético Madrid).
Dramatically, Barcelona themselves denied Madrid’s appeal for the achievement thrashing them at Santiago Bernabeu 4-0!
However, Carlo Ancelotti at least can take solace in terms of a personal feat. The above mentioned record run of “Blaugrana” was achieved under two coaches, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde, working with the team during that period. Thus, Ancelotti who worked within the whole series with “Blancos”, set his personal record as a coach for most La Liga games without losses in a row.
He took it over from Alberto Ormaetxea from Real Sociedad, under whom the Basque club did not lose 38 straight matches between 1979 and 1980.
Earlier this month, Real Madrid said goodbye also to their long unbeaten streak in Champions League (14 games), losing to Lille (0-1) on the 2nd match-day of the competition.
Notably, in the period between 21 May 2023 and 2 October 2024, that is over nearly 1.5 years, Real Madrid suffered only 2 losses in all competitions (domestic and international), both times from their capital arch-rivals. Atlético beat them also 4-2 in Copa del Rey clash on 21 January 2024.
