EUROPEAN RECORDS FOR MANCHESTER CITY

Following the result of the UCL 3rd match-day against Sparta Prague (5-0), Manchester City set two new European records at once.
Firstly, they extended unbeaten run in the Champions League to 26 games (18 wins, 8 draws), breaking Manchester United's record of 25, which had stood since 2009. City's streak without losing continues for the third season in a row.
Secondly, Guardiola's team has not lost 27 games in a row in all competitions under auspices of UEFA. This series, along with 26 Champions League matches, also includes the 2023 Super Cup match against Sevilla.
In this category, Manchester City broke the record of Espanyol, who managed to remain unbeaten for 26 games. These were games of the same tournament, which during the series changed its name from the UEFA Cup to Europa League.
In the 2006-07 season, Espanyol went unbeaten in all 15 games, losing the final to Sevilla only after a penalty shootout. Then the Barcelona club disappeared from the European scene for a long time. But coming back there again, in the 2019-20 season, they did not lose another 11 games. During their streak, Espanyol totalled 19 wins and 7 draws.
The run was interrupted on 12 December 2019 in the final home match of the group stage against CSKA Moscow (0-1).
